Moab, Utah - Days 10-11 (Arches National Park)

Day 10

The drive from Capitol Reef to Moab was beautiful.  The first part of it was on UT-24 E, right through part of Capitol Reef National Park.  We passed right by the turn off for Goblin Valley State Park.  I wanted so badly to stop there, but that just wasn't going to happen this time.  That gives me a good reason to come back to Utah.

We arrived in Moab at about 2:00 pm.  We had reservations at Spanish Trail RV Park.  It was on the south side of Moab.  Driving through the town, I was wishing we had more time to spend there.  I thought, when planning this trip, that 3 nights in Moab would be enough.  I was wrong.  I could easily have spend 2 days in Arches, 2 days in Canyonlands and a day exploring the Moab.  Next time.

When we got there, we didn't do much.  There was a nice grocery store - City Market - about 2 miles away.  Apparently it is owned by Kroger.  It was a big, fully stocked store.  Our adventure that first night was just navigating a store we aren't familiar with to get groceries.

Day 11

Today, we visited Arches National Park.   We had driven through here in 2015.  It was a great as I remembered.  I just love the Arches.  And all of the other rock formations in the park.  Its just amazing to me how beautiful and diverse the natural landscape can be.

There are some of the views from the various pull outs.

We hiked the small trail around Balanced Rock.  Most of my pictures had a sun spot in them (I need a sun shade for my new camera).

We hiked the trail to the Double Arch.  Its less than a half mile to the Arch, and well worth the walk.

And finally, Delicate Arch.   There are 3 ways to view Delicate Arch. There is a 3 mile round trip hike to it, but it was hot and I was tired (not to mention out of shape!) and that wasn't going to happen.   There is another location that has 2 view points.  The first is about a 5 minute walk, and the other is about a 1/2 mile (round trip) walk.  David and I walked the 1/2 trip to that view point.  A lot of it was uphill, so it (for me, at least) was a challenging hike, but boy did I feel accomplished when we got to the top!

It was a wonderful day.   Tomorrow will be Canyonlands.

RV and Camper Info

Spanish Trails RV park was a nice park, overall.   The sites were all gravel, and although our site was not level, it was not bad.   The site was a pull-in, back-out site.  We had a picnic table and a nice grassy area, which worked great for Mari.  We had a bunny visit us the first night.

Most of the sites were pull-throughs.  I believe all were full-hookups.  We paid a base rate of $39.20 per night ($49 minus the 10% Good Sam Discount).  There was also a $3 a night extra person fee, since we had 3 adults.

The people in the office were extremely friendly and helpful.  The office had a store with basic items one might need (such as a water pressure regulator), and some cute jewelry and other things

The laundry room was good - open 24 hours if I recall correctly.  It had at least 8 washers and 8 dryers and all were in working order.

The showers were ok, but could use some TLC.  Shower curtains probably need to be replaced.

There was a small swimming pool - apparently it was just re-done this past winter.  It looked nice, but we did not use it.

The view from the campground was nice.  My pictures of the view don't do it justice.

Overall, a nice campground.  I would probably stay here again if I came back to this area.  Some of the other ones in the area looked like parking lots with no amenities. Not that a parking lot is a bad thing if all you want is a place to park, but I enjoyed staying at this park.
